With the introduction of Louis Vuitton Capucines bags in Fall/Winter 2013 Collection, the French house of fashion seemed to set out on a new departure. Lacking the iconic Louis Vuitton monogram pattern, it is branded with a minimalist LV initials sheathed in bull-calf leather and inserted into claws and set into the full-grain leather of the bag.
Tuck in the flap and all you see is the subtle LV initials. Fold the flap over and voila! It’s the outline of a monogram flower. As simple as it looks, the Capucines bag were sold out almost immediately following it’s released and has always been on the list of the most coveted designer bag.
The name of the bag, Capucines, pays homage to the earliest Louis Vuitton Maison, which was located on the Rue des Capucines in Paris in 1854. The Capucines is made as a testament to the fine leather craftsmanship. It is an extremely very well-made bag, which takes over 250 individual handcrafted operations. The bag is made with supple full-grain Taurillon calf-leather, which comes from the top layer of a hide. It is known for the supreme quality, durability and excellent texture. This is the same leather used for the always-sought-after Hermès Kelly and Birkin bags.
Louis Vuitton handbags were formerly made of “structured” leather, which is suitable for making luggages. Touch an earlier, more-structured LV bag, and compare it with a LV Capucine; you can tell the difference.
The LV Capucine bag oozes sophistication in design and amazing leather quality, it’s refined details brought it to whole new level as well. It has a semi-rigid handle secured by jewel-like sparkling rings and a highly spacious and functional shape offering two inner compartments.
It originally came in two sizes, GM (15.7″ x 10.6″ x 6.3″) and MM (14.2″ x 9.1″ x 5.5″), with the newest and smallest model called the BB (“Brigitte Bardot”) (7.9″ x 10.6″ x 3.5″). The mini size also comes with a removable long shoulder strap for the casual shoulder or cross-body wear. Capucines comes in many colours, some with a contrasting interior.
For such intricate bags, higher price tags are expected. The Capucines BB is priced at US$4,400.00, MM is US$5,600.00, Capucines MM with python handle is US$6,200.00 and the GM size retails for US$6,050.00.
Currently, the GM only comes in two colours (Black and Cherry Red), while the MM comes in a range of ten shades: Pomme, Clementine, Taupe, Capucine, Orcre, Blue Canard, Quetsche, Blanc Casse, Black, Purple. The bags’ hardware varies between silver and gold, depending on the leather colour. The BB comes with a variety of eye-catching colours and patterns.
In 2014, the crocodile leather makeover of the Capucines was introduced at very limited quantity and only available at selected Louis Vuitton boutiques. In two sizes: MM (14.2″ x 9.1″ x 5.5″) and GM (15.7″ x 10.6″ x 6.3″), the Capucines in Crocodile are priced at approximately US$50,000.
As a modern and chic minimalist bag, the Capucines is ultimately versatile. It adds a touch of elegance to any outfit.
Take a look at how celebrities and fashionistas around the world are styling their outfits with their LV Capucines. Due to being one of the famous bags, it’s always out of stock, hence, not many people out there are carrying the Capuucines. In the world of fashion, scarcity is always a plus point, especially to Louis Vuitton when its monogram canvas bags have become less desired due to their ubiquitous-ness.
